Can this herbal vodka still be considered a vodka at all, and should you drink it straight?

Żołądkowa Gorzka

This one (I guess you could write it as „Zoladkowa Gorzka vodka“ if you want) is from Poland, and it’s not just any vodka, but a herbal vodka! I was thinking if I should even consider it for this blog, since it’s not a regular vodka, but then I thought what the heck, we have flavored vodkas here too, right?

Żołądkowa Gorzka vodka is just too sweet to be consumed straight

Normally when you drink a regular flavored vodka like Georgievskaya Birch, like Kalinovaya or Nemiroff Honey Pepper, it’s just regular vodka that has just been infused with something. Sometimes the taste changes noticeably, sometimes it doesn’t.

But this herbal vodka is not like that. It has a thick, almost oily texture. It doesn’t feel very much like a vodka.

Maybe the texture of this drink is precisely the reason why it goes down so smoothly (9/10). But it tastes way too sweet, in fact the aftertaste seems to belong to some sort of herbal medicine, so I wouldn’t recommend serving this one straight (5/10). The bottle looks alright (5/10), and the price is excellent: I got this for around 10€ for 700ml (9/10).

Oh, and here’s what you can do to make it shine in a drink: mix 1 unit of Żołądkowa Gorzka with 2 units of tonic water, then add some fresh lemon juice. Tastes somewhat like gin tonic, just a bit more interesting!
