Mansfeld

Luxembourg

flawed coldness

[40%, sampled in Luxembourg]

I got this bottle of Mansfeld vodka when I was hanging out in Luxembourg in February 2018. I don’t know why exactly, but I remember being surprised that the country of Luxembourg had its own brand of vodka. Maybe it was because it seemed so small?

the rich place

Anyway, Mansfeld is from Luxembourg. It was apparently named after a 16th century governor of the place. And why not.

The thing is, Luxembourg isn’t just small, it’s also ridiculously wealthy. So it came as no surprise that this one was a top shelf vodka. Its price tag was 34€ for a 0,7l bottle, which wasn’t the most expensive ever, but definitely put it somewhere close to the top.

The bottle design seemed straight forward: smoked glass, dark cap, almost simplistic in a way. I liked it.

Mansfeld tastes better than it smells

When I opened the bottle, I noticed that Mansfeld had a strong smell that was almost a bit disappointing for a vodka of this price level. But the taste! It was a bit sweet, and at the same time it felt cold in the mouth. It was so smooth that it went down almost like water.

The aftertaste wasn’t so good, though. It burned a little in the stomach, a warming sensation that I liked. But there wasn’t anything memorable about the aftertaste, no special aroma.

All in all, Mansfeld vodka is good, but they should work on the aftertaste.
