a good Russian brand
This is a review of Dvojnaya Belaya vodka from Russia. I sampled it in Germany in 2011. It’s clear, 40% alcohol, and it’s a shame it never got more attention.
This one is called Dvojnaya Belaya vodka – Двойная Белая. It’s from Russia, one of the homelands of the V.
I got it at the Russian store around the corner, a small shop that has all kinds of food and some liquor. First I just stood there staring at the windows for a while, but then I went in and started looking around inside. It felt a bit intimidating, because I figured that the people in there were probably professionals – owners of a Russian store, masters of the V!
how to find vodka
In the end, I braced myself and asked them about this bottle: was Dvojnaya Belaya vodka any good, could they recommend it? The owner and his wife gave me a funny look. No idea, they said, and the guy sighed. As it turned out they didn’t like vodka all that much. They preferred cognac.
at least a picture of a distillery
I tried looking up Dvojnaya Belaya vodka online, but nothing came up. After a while I found a Bulgarian site that said Dvojnaya Belaya vodka was produced by a Russian company called Rosspirtprom. Luckily, there was a website: rosspirtprom.ru
Sadly, the only thing I could find there were some pictures of a few distilleries. No sign of Dvojnaya Belaya vodka or any other brand. Maybe they had gone out of business?
Dvojnaya Belaya is recommendable
I ended up sampling Dvojnaya Belaya vodka with some pickles. Here’s my verdict: it goes down easily, which is a good thing. It also leaves a pleasantly warm feeling in the chest. There is a pleasant and lasting aftertaste.
To me Dvojnaya Belaya vodka tastes like solid quality. It’s a drink that will make for a nice evening if you’re sharing it with friends.
I liked the simple bottle design for some reason, and the price was very affordable (around 11€/700ml).
All in all this is a good vodka brand. It’s nothing overly exciting. But still very recommendable.
